Starting the New Year with a splash
How else would you possibly want to start your 2015 off than taking a dip in a freezing cold river?
Now being in Scotland, we’re not particularly renowned for our balmy, tropical weather so it was no surprise to wake up to howling winds, driving rain and chilly temperatures on the 1st of January. You may not be able to say much about Scottish weather but you can definitely say a lot of about the people that turn up in such horrible weather to have some fun(?!) all in aid of charity. The words of choice are entirely up to you, but we’ll go with hardy and generous.
The Limekilns Dip has been taking place for nine years and is much loved by the hundreds of hardy folk that enjoy starting their year off with an icy ‘swim’ in the Forth. When Canvas Holidays heard that the Dip had to be cancelled due to funding issues, the company threw the organiser a lifeline in the shape of funding (and also a large orange life-ring, you know, just in case) so that it would be able to go ahead. Of course, with the financial support came the rounding up of the Canvas troops to show support physically by getting in the water brrr.
All the money raised at the event, through registration, the essential sausage rolls and fabulous raffle all goes towards helping Fife Young Carers. This is a local charity that Canvas has supported for five years and every penny raised goes towards helping these young people have a much-needed holiday to a campsite every year. As they spend all of their time caring for someone else, this break is so important in helping them be themselves again and to have lots of fun. Thank you very much to every single person that turned up and supported the event either by braving the cold and running into the Forth, or by volunteering to ensure that the event ran smoothly.
Same time next year? Sign up for the 2016 dip here or we’ll see you there at 2pm for registration.
