Spotlight on Tuscany & Rome
Ever popular amongst Canvas holidaymakers, and home to some of the most beautiful scenery and architecture in Europe, Tuscany and Rome make the perfect holiday destination.
Whether you are looking to explore Rome and Florence, soak up the scenery, or simply kick back and relax on the beach, the region is the ideal choice. It’s a fabulous choice for a sightseeing holiday, and staying on a campsite means you’re never too far away from the sights and have the fantastic pool and leisure facilities to keep the whole family happy.
Tuscany is well known for its outstanding natural beauty. The area is rich in history and culture, and is regarded as the true birthplace of the Italian Renaissance. Many important artists and philosophers were born here, and the region is home to several interesting museums. There are many reasons to visit Tuscany; explore medieval towns, marvel at Renaissance art and dine on typical Tuscan dishes accompanied by wine from the famous Chianti region.
Although associated mostly with stunning countryside, Tuscany also has around 250 miles of coastline. The golden beach at Viareggio offers a sun worshiper’s paradise and is one of the Mediterranean’s most popular areas for surfing. With so much to see and do in Tuscany, the difficulty is where to begin. Many holidaymakers start with Florence then continue on to explore Pisa and Siena. These three cities form a triangle near Italy’s west coast.
It is of course impossible to mention city breaks in Italy without talking about Rome. Italy’s capital is awash with architectural wonders and is fabulous to explore. Watch the world go by with a coffee in one of the many piazzas before exploring the landmarks: the Parthenon; Vatican City; Spanish Steps; Trevi Fountain – the list goes on!
As far as holiday destinations go, this region has something for everyone. The more you come to know the region, the more extraordinary it appears.
