Camping Duinrell: The verdict!
Our Kids Ambassadors, Oliver & Ella took a holiday to Camping Duinrell in Holland. Here’s what they thought (in their own words).
We have recently returned from a fab week at Camping Duinrell in Wassenaar, Holland and it was just a non-stop week of funfair and water park family fun.
We took the ferry from Harwich to the Hook of Holland which although a 7 hour journey went quickly as there is lots do on board including a cinema, play area and restaurants.
The drive down to Duinrell took around 45 mins and Mum and Dad found the drive very easy. On arrival we were shown to our two bedroom Comfort Plus caravan which was to be our home for the week. Although it was quite small it had everything we needed and was very close to the amusement park and water park which we thought was perfect. With the sunny weather we were able to make the most of the decking area and sun loungers, and of course the barbecue.
Duinrell Amusement Park
Being a Canvas guest you can use the amusement park for free from opening till close which is just brilliant. There is a massive range of rides and attractions to suit all ages with a few big scary rides if you are brave enough. One of our absolute favourite rides was the Catapults, these are small boats that pull you backwards up a ramp and then let you go shooting back down again into the water!
But other good rides that we went on many times were The Falcon, a fast roller-coaster which makes you feel like you are flying, The Splash Water ride where you get very very wet (you can stay dry if you prefer!), the Pirate Ship, Toboggans, Mad Mill, Dragonfly roller coaster, swings…. The list goes on but it really was a full day of fun every day!
OUR TOP FIVE RIDES AT DUINRELL AMUSEMENT PARK
- FALCON – dive like a bird in a very fast ride
- SPLASH WATER RIDE – you can stay dry if you want or get very very wet!
- CATAPULTS – awesome boat jump into the water
- SHIP AHOY – feel seasick on the rocking boat
- MAD MILL – twist and spin madness
The Tiki Pool
The Tiki swimming pool at Duinrell is awesome! As a Canvas guest you can use the pool for two hours for just €4 per person. The pool does get busy but it stays open until 10pm each night so there is always time for you to visit. It has a children’s pool, 11 different slides (some of which are scarier than others), a lazy river, a sauna and a relaxing area. We tried out all of the slides and our favourite has to be the MOONLIGHT & STARLIGHT slides. You get in a double tube and slide down a dark slide which has lots of lights and water sprays inside. All of the rides were great fun.
OUR TOP FIVE SLIDES AT THE TIKI POOL
- MOONLIGHT & STARFRIGHT – fab lightening effect dual tube slide
- PELICAN SLIDE – sheer drop from the pelican beak
- CYCLOON – plughole spinning slide
- FAMILY SLIDE – super long fast slide
- LAZY RIVER – float around tube fun
Out and about
The campsite also has a huge selection of bikes and go-karts to hire, from between €6.50 and €9 a day and these can be used to explore both on and off the site – one day we took a lovely bike ride to the nearby beach and played on the beautiful white sand all day and even took a dip in the sea!
If you don’t fancy cooking or eating in one of the three on site restaurants, then a short walk away is the town of Wassenaar which is a pretty little town with lots of nice shops, restaurants and even a windmill! But the best place to visit here is the world famous ice cream shop ‘Luciano’s’ – you can even watch them make the ice cream and they are just delicious.
One day during our stay we took a day trip to Amsterdam, which is about a 45 minute drive away, and we used the park and ride. We took the tram into the town centre and visited Ann Franks House, had a boat trip on the canals and also took in the Dutch renaissance museum, all of these things we found interesting and fun and were suitable for children.
Camping Duinrell is not a relaxing holiday as there is just too much to do and see and we had an amazing time exploring the site, its surrounding area and also Holland itself – people were surprised when we said we were off the Holland on holiday but we would definitely recommend it, especially Camping Duinrell with Canvas Holidays.
*TOP TIP* – Take a passport photo of each guest with you as these are needed for your Duinrell passes which are used to gain entry onto site, the water park and for bike hire.
The verdict: A fab holiday filled with lots of family fun.
