If you’re in Amsterdam between the 19th and 23rd of August get yourself down to the waterfront!
The 19th of August marks the start of the massive Sail Amsterdam nautical event. It’s the biggest event of its kind in the world and only happens once every five years. It’s quite a spectacle as around 600 ships of various types sail into the IJ-haven (Amsterdam’s waterfront) – you’ll see majestic tall ships, heritage ships, modern ships and incredible replicas. That’s a lot of ships! Some of the boats open to the public and you can climb on board and explore.
The action doesn’t just take place on the water. There’s plenty to see on land too with various events and activities taking place. The festivities take place over five day and there’s loads to see every day – take a look at the program of events to plan your day.
