’tis the season for giving

There’s nothing better than being generous and giving something back to make you feel the warm and fuzzies, particularly at Christmas time. There’s something wonderful about giving at Christmas – picking that fantastic gift that you know someone is going to love, and watching their face light up as they tear open the wrapping paper.

We try to keep that positivity and giving nature going all year long by supporting one local and one national charity. Since 2010 the Canvas team has raised funds for Fife Young Carers and customers and couriers have raised money for the Family Holiday Association. Over the years we’ve raised a fantastic £20,000 for FYC and close to £80,ooo for the Family Holiday Association which is simply incredible! Thank you for all your support!

Fife Young Carers is a local charity that supports young carers in our local community. Each year Canvas fundraises in order to provide the charity with funds that they can use as they wish. Alongside this, each October a group of young carers head off on holiday to Camping Duinrell, Holland. This gives them the chance to relax and have fun away from their everyday lives, plus we love receiving their postcards!

Our fundraising for 2015 kicked off in a rather chilly fashion on the 1st of January with  a refreshing dip into the River Forth for the Limekilns Dip! A lot of extremely hardy people turned up on Limekilns beach in Fife to take the plunge – all in the name of fundraising for FYC. Tempted to join us next year? Have a read of last year’s event here.

Other fundraising events have been slightly warmer thankfully! Throughout the year, the team have undertaken various fund raising events including a bacon roll desk delivery service, the Great Canvas Bake Off, a Race Night, sponsored cycles, walks, 10ks and a couple of marathons too for the ultra-hardy team members!

It’s not only the team at HQ that embrace the fundraising. Our wonderful customers have raised £8,645 for the Family Holiday Association this year from giving a £2 donation when they book their holiday. This money makes the world of difference to families that live their day-to-day lives in difficult circumstances. A holiday is so beneficial and allows the family to spend time together and for some kids, it’s their first trip to the seaside.

On the campsites, the couriers and customers have carried on with their generosity and fundraising events on site have raised £4,000 for the FHA. Camping la Grande Métairie, Carnac was this year’s highest fundraising team! Congrats!

At the beginning of the year, Canvas made the goal to get more involved in the local community of Dunfermline. Through sponsoring various events and awards, it’s been great fun getting more involved in the local community and getting to know some of the incredible people that we live and work alongside. The most inspiring event was the Community Champion Awards which celebrated some of the fantastic people that live and work in Fife. Canvas sponsored the Little Champions Award which saw three fantastic young people, who have all exceeded the odds to get where they are, win a holiday. We simply couldn’t choose one winner, they all deserved to win so much.

Other events were the Kingdom Crits, a series of mountain bike races in and around Fife for those aged between 6 and 18. We then rounded the year off with a fantastic couple of days at the Dunfermline Festival. Even though the rain threatened to put a damper on everything, we had a fantastic time with lots of people enjoying FamilyExtra activities run by the very lovely people from In2Action.

So as we head (at a scarily fast speed!) towards the end of 2015, we’ve got one more event planned, the Great Christmas Bake Off (you may have noticed how much we enjoy cake)! So check back on the 17th to see some fantastic cake creations and we’ll do a final tally on this year’s fundraising.

If you’re feeling inspired to get involved and raise some money yourself, why not come down and join us at Limekilns Beach on January 1st 2016 at 3pm for a refreshing dip. We had a lot of fun last year. Honest! You can sign up here, or we’ll see you down there from 2pm.
