Where to holiday this Easter

There are Crème eggs in the shops… it must be time to think about Easter! This year, the holiday falls quite early (Easter Sunday is 27th March) so it’s definitely not too soon to start planning your Easter escape.

Here are 5 Easter holiday spots, perfect for a family break.

Camping Bella Italia, Lake Garda

A long-time favourite with Canvas holidaymakers, Camping Bella Italia is a good option for a spot of sun this Easter. Average daytime temperatures for the end of March are around 18°C – ideal temperatures for exploring in my opinion!

You’ll find Bella Italia just outside the lakeside village of Peschiera del Garda. It’s a very large campsite, which can get very busy in the middle of summer. But at Easter, its much quieter and more relaxed (but still with plenty to do!)

This fab blog post written by Nicola pretty much sums up the campsite!

This is a brilliant location for exploring Lake Garda. Sirmione is one of my favourites – and visiting at Easter means you’ll escape the crowds who flock there in July and August.

Camping Duinrell, Holland

Whatever age your children are, Camping Duinrell is sure to be a hit. One of the best things about this campsite is the free (yes free) theme park which is attached to it. There are loads of rides to choose from for all age groups – including a couple of scary looking roller coasters!

What’s more, if the weather doesn’t quite hold out, there’s also a brilliant indoor water park. You pay a reduced fee for entry, but it’s worth every penny if your kids love water slides.

The campsite itself is around a 5 minute walk from the town of Wassenaar, and there are good public transport links to many other towns and cities. Amsterdam is around an hour away, so ideal for a day trip. (Try this blog post if you’re looking for ideas on what to do while you’re there).

I also really enjoyed a visit to ‘Corpus’ in Leiden. It might sound a little strange, but a fully interactive tour of inside the human body was genuinely really interesting and a good way to spend a couple of hours if it’s not quite beach weather!

Holidays here are selling fast over the Easter break, so book now if you want to try it out for yourself.

Camping les Etangs Fleuris, near Paris

Love Disney? Camping les Etangs Fleuris could be the perfect choice! It’s just a 25 minute drive to the Disneyland® Paris theme parks and makes a great base. Make sure you read these great blog posts about the theme parks before you go!

Paris itself is also easily reached from the campsite – the centre of Paris is around an hour away – and can be accessed by public transport if you don’t want to drive. Paris itself really needs little introduction – from the Eiffel Tower, to the Louvre it’s packed with things to see and do. Our ‘Food Lover’s Guide to Paris’ offers an interesting way to explore the city.

The campsite itself is small and relaxed – there’s plenty of open space if the kids need to burn off some energy. In this case, small and relaxed really does mean just that – most of the facilities are closed until May, so you’ll need to stock up on supplies in the nearby village.

Belvedere Village, Lake Garda

If you’re looking for a holiday in the Italian lakes, but aren’t quite ready to try out a mobile home, then this could be the perfect campsite for you. Accommodation here is the lovely Belvedere Apartment. They have 2 bedrooms with a terrace or balcony, and are well-equipped for a self-catering holiday.

The campsite itself is set around 2 miles away from Lake Garda, close to Peschiera del Garda, and does make a great base for exploring the area. Day trips to Verona and Venice should definitely be on your ‘to-do’ list – hop on a train from the nearby station. Easter is a great time to visit – I found both cities much less crowded and easier to explore than in the height of the summer months.

If you (or the kids) are in to theme parks, then Gardaland is really close by – it opens for 2016 on 24 March, so ideal for a fun day out!

Camping la Croix du Vieux Pont, Berny Rivière

One of our most popular campsites, Camping la Croix du Vieux Pont needs little introduction to regular readers of our blog!

Around a 3 hour drive from Calais, the campsite is easily accessed from the UK and a great option whether you’re looking for a few nights away, or a 2 week holiday.

It’s close to Paris and the Disney theme parks – the campsite runs a bus service to both of these a couple of times a week. But if you’re not looking to go far, there’s plenty going on here. Our popular FamilyExtra service is open for the Easter holidays (from 27th March until 8th April), as well as a covered pool and water slides, soft play, 10-pin bowling and laser quest.

The campsite is always popular with fishermen. The site is built around 3 large lakes – pick your spot and relax for the day.

And I haven’t even mentioned the accommodation yet! From spacious 4 lodges with 4 bedrooms, to smaller mobile homes, we’ve got a massive selection here. There’s sure to be something which suits your party size and budget.
