October camping holidays – where is open?

It’s been the shortest school term and probably the quickest change in temperature from summer to autumn – now we’re on the road to crisper mornings and darker nights, take this chance to catch one last week of holiday fun while the kids are off.

As requested by many of you, we’ve put together a list of the campsites which are open during October and what you can expect from each of them.

Here are our top 5 for family fun

Camping les Etangs Fleuris, Paris – open until 29/10/16

Did you know that one of our campsites is only 25 minutes away from Disneyland® Paris?

Camping les Etangs Fleuris is 40 miles from Paris and ideal location for visiting both the city and the theme park.

The campsite itself is small and relaxed – there’s plenty of open space if the kids need to burn off some energy. In this case, small and relaxed really does mean just that – most of the facilities are closed until May, so you’ll need to stock up on supplies in the nearby village.

Camping Fabulous, Rome – open until 29/10/16

Camping Fabulous is located 16 miles from Rome, making it a great base to combine the energetic part of exploring every nook and cranny of the city, and then having a lovely place to relax and get your breath back.

The area has very pleasant temperatures for later in the year with September usually around 14-19°c in October. Apparently the sea stays at around 22°c so take your swimsuit if you fancy a dip – although for the less adventurous, the site also has two great pools.

Camping la Croix du Vieux Pont, Paris – open until 29/10/16

Lodges-View-13 Berny

The relaxing feeling of being in rural French countryside combined with the action and fun of campsite life – partly due to the fantastic FamilyExtra programme – makes Camping la Croix du Vieux Pont an excellent choice for a family holiday in October.

Around a 3 hour drive from Calais, the campsite is easily accessed from the UK and a great option whether you’re looking for a few nights away, or a 2 week holiday.

Camping Bella Italia – open until 29/10/16

Bella Italia cafe with view

Ideally located on the banks of sparkling Lake Garda, Camping Bella Italia is a bustling, lively site, with all of the facilities you could wish for. A hedge-lined avenue winds through the site, giving stunning views of the lake and mountains.

Located only a five-minute’ drive from the campsite is magical theme park, Gardaland. Here young children will love a visit to Fantasy Kingdom with its Toy Town. For those who love an adrenaline rush, up the tempo on the exhilarating Blue Tornado roller coaster and hurtle through the air at Mach5!

Camping Duinrell, Holland – open until 29/10/16

Whatever age your children are, Camping Duinrell is sure to be a hit. One of the best things about this campsite is the free – yes free – theme park which is attached to it. There are loads of rides to choose from for all age groups – including a couple of scary looking roller coasters!

What’s more, if the weather doesn’t quite hold out, there’s also a brilliant indoor water park. You pay a reduced fee for entry, but it’s worth every penny if your kids love water slides.

The campsite itself is around a 5 minute walk from the town of Wassenaar, and there are good public transport links to many other towns and cities. Amsterdam is around an hour away, so ideal for a day trip.
